CH#54 – Monster Contracts w/ JoeSnow

Welcome to Commander’s Horn, Episode 54, hosted by Dane “McBeard” and Josh “Greyboxer.” It’s Monsters week, and we are joined by streamer JoeSnow to talk about the newest cards and the faction. The Mahakam Ale Festival and a (relatively) small balancing patch has hit, as well. We talk about this, single player, the future of competitive Gwent AND new game modes in one of our biggest episodes yet!

We are supported by our listeners (aka our Commandos!). For more information on how you can support the show, find us on Patreon at www.patreon.com/commandershorn

  1. Hi guys

I am a returning Gwent player (played mostly in the closed Beta on Xbox but somehow couldn’t find the time to properly play over the last couple months) and firstly want to say thanks for keeping the seed alive with all the great content the Horn has been consistently churning out.

Secondly I wanted to ask a couple questions/make a suggestion.

As a UK player, I would love to participate in tournaments but it always feel like I’m a day late and a dollar short with regards to knowing the time/dates/registration process. I know in this day and age it’s necessary to be on all the social media channels (twitter, discord, twitch, etc) but I am old school and stubborn, and so rely on good channels to get info on stuff, and in the case of Gwent, I only get to hear about tournaments from your discussions. It seems like a lot of the time it should be obvious how to get involved in tournaments, but since I pretty much just listen to the cast and then play in front of my TV, I am often left feeling like I should be seeing something pop up on screen about the latest tourney but this never happens. So if you guys have the skinny please shout about the who, what and why a bit more as I am sure there are other listeners that would love to get involved and find the whole registration/entering processes confusing too.

Next I wanted to ask if you have any tips on the best strategy for collecting cards? I have just recently downloaded the game on my PC as well which does mean I don’t have any collection yet and have to start from scratch. If you have touched on this in one of the episodes I might have missed, it would be greatly appreciated if you could point out which that might be, or maybe it could be a discussion topic on a future episode. With the game changing so much and approaching a full release (hopefully) soon, it might be good to go over this point again for noobs and lapsed player like me.

Otherwise love your work and please keep at it.

    Kind regards
    Sean

    1. Thanks for the kind words!

Follow the Gwent Reddit, it’s only as demanding as making a bookmark is, which is not very. For GwentSlam info, follow Lifecoach on Twitter, since he has no site or anything. Again, a simple bookmark here helps. Finally, check playgwent.com frequently. Many of the popular community tournaments are put together by the Gwentlemen (www.gwentlemen.com)

As for collections – watch some videos/streams and find something you like and focus on building out that build, and eventually, the faction. Dailies are generous. You can earn 3 kegs a day with minimal commitment. Just play every day and you should start to amass a nice collection. Keep a eye on card changes too, as they offer bonus scraps when milled right after a patch (so don’t mill until patches hit)
